Former Budalangi Member of Parliament Ababu Namwamba has resigned from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government as Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary.

Ababu resigned to take up his new role at William Ruto Presidential Campaign Secretariat as the head of International Relations.

Speaking to the press on Thursday while announcing his resignation, Ababu thanked the president for his appointment and praised those he worked with at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“I thank the president for the appointment but it is time to vacate the seat,” Ababu said.

“We have accomplished so much and during these four years we have had an amazing time,” he added.

His resignation comes a day after he was appointed to Ruto’s presidential secretariat where he will be responsible for the DP’s international image and relations.

DP Ruto said he appointed the former lawmaker to the role because he (Ababu) is fit for it, having served as a leader, a lawyer and a politician.

“We have worked closely with Ababu over the past 10 years on many fronts and I have come to value his leadership, experience, and empathy.

“It is because of those qualities that I could not be more grateful to have him on our campaign team,” Ruto said.

The DP also lauded Namwamba for his international relations skills, saying he will be useful to his presidential bid.

“With his considerable diplomatic talents, deep knowledge of the continent, strong network in the global stage, and unwavering determination, I am confident in his role,” Ruto added.
