Two high school students aged 17, and 16 are currently cooling their heels in police custody after they were caught with bhang worth Ksh690,000.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the two minors in Form 4 and 3 respectively were caught when they were travelling from Busia to Nairobi.

Detectives who were acting on a tip-off added that a multi-agency team leading the arrest intercepted the bus they were travelling in.

“Two high school students, one aged 17 in Form 4 and the other aged 16 in Form 3, were apprehended with a large amount of cannabis and placed in custody. The two were travelling on a Guardian Angel bus, registration number KCW 073X, destined for Nairobi from Busia when their illicit cargo was discovered,” DCI said.

Upon a search, five bales of cannabis weighing 23 kilograms were discovered hidden in their bags.

“Acting on a tip-off, a vigilant multi-agency team stationed at the Suo roadblock intercepted the bus. A meticulous search ensued, leading to the discovery of five bales of cannabis, weighing a total of 23 kilograms, cleverly concealed in the students’ bags. The street value of the seized cannabis is estimated at Shs690,000,” DCI added.

The two were booked at Busia Police Station where they are being processed before being arraigned.
