Construction worker electrocuted in Eastleigh while removing floodlight

A construction worker lost his life after being electrocuted while working on a site in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

Police confirmed that 29-year-old worker Kyalo Nzangi died on the spot after being electrocuted at a construction site on March 23, 2024

According to police, the deceased died while trying to disconnect a flood light that was being used on the ground floor.

“The workers had lit the light to help them continue with their work at the site,” police said.

Nzangi was electrocuted because he was not wearing gloves while removing the floodlight.

He sustained serious burns from the electrocution.

The deceased was rushed to Mother and Care Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to Mama Lucy Hospital morgue for postmortem.

The latest incident adds to a series of similar accidents at construction sites in Eastleigh and Nairobi at large.

On Wednesday evening March 20, 2024, a pedestrian was killed in Eastleigh after being hit by a falling stone at a construction site.

19-year-old Abdikaff Mohamed was walking along Second Avenue, Seventh Street when the stone fell and hit him on the head.

He was rushed to Care Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

After the incident, police visited the site and ordered construction to be halted pending an investigation into the incident by officials from the Nairobi County Government and the National Construction Authority.

The body was moved to the local mosque pending autopsy, preservation, and burial.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Red Cross issued safety tips amid heavy rains in Nairobi.

Red Cross advises Kenyans to beware of flash floods and evacuate immediately if they sense impending danger.

“With rains pounding various parts of Nairobi County, it is crucial to know how to protect yourself and your loved ones from potential flooding hazards.

“Check out these essential flood safety tips to ensure you are prepared for any emergency situation,” Red Cross said in a statement.
