Panic as woman falls while running from speeding car during Naivasha rally

A spectator on Saturday, March 30, 2024, escaped death by a whisker after a rally car almost hit her.

In a video seen by K24 Digital, the woman had joined others to spectate at the sidelines when the car veered off the muddy trail.

The speeding car attempted to redirect to the main trail but it skidded on the muddy soil and charged towards the spectators.

Acting out of panic, the spectators scattered away for their dear lives save for the lady who ended up falling as the car moved towards her, the driver was able to control the vehicle and finally redirected it to the trail.

The much-anticipated rally currently going on in Naivasha attracted thousands of spectators from across the country.

As of Friday, fans had already flocked to the lakeside town of Naivasha ready to witness action and unwind from a busy work week.

With the attendance, businesses such as eateries and accommodation areas have recorded a significant impact as the rally enters its second day.

The event features a lineup of 9 entries consisting of top contenders from across the world.

President William Ruto flagged off the event at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) on Thursday, March 28, 2024.

Speaking during the flag-off, Ruto who was accompanied by Sports and Youths Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba lauded this year’s rally and termed it as a rewarding and beautiful event for the Easter holidays.

The Head of State also encouraged Kenyans to turn up in numbers and support local teams.

“This is truly a special Easter holiday gift to millions of families to bond over a thrilling spectacle. You really can’t find a rally as tough, compelling, beautiful and rewarding as the one in Kenya,” Ruto said.

The President also appreciated the organisers for returning the rally back to the country, he also asked them to add two more days to the three-day rally.

“Ababu Namwamba and your team, FIA and WRC, I think it is time you consider the request of our rally drivers,” Ruto said.
