Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam Ojwang’ has issued a stern warning to politicians who are financing Bogi Mawe, an emerging criminal gang that has been terrorizing residents.
Speaking in Kitale town, Ojwang’ noted that investigations were ongoing for some unnamed politicians believed to be financing the gang adding that action will be taken against those found guilty.
“Just like we deal with terrorists, we shall also deal with the financiers of the Bogi Mawe gang. We are coming for you, we shall not spare anybody” Ojwang’ warned.
Ojwang’ further revealed that the members of the notorious gang said to be extorting politicians seeking votes and molesting women candidates are drawn from slums surrounding Kitale town.
“Majority of the members of this gang are from Matisi, Kipsongo, Kisumu Ndugu slums. They will also not be spared” he said.
The administrator however assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure that the August 9 elections are conducted peacefully.
“Just because the country is in election mood, it does not mean the law has been suspended. We are on very high alert and we shall ensure that peace is there before, during and after the election” Ojwang’ reiterated.
Ojwang’ additionally asked candidates to do their campaigns without profiling people along tribal lines and political parties affiliations.
“Election will come and go. You don’t have to hate your neighbour because he/she is supporting a candidate you don’t support. Politicians should also do clean politics devoid of insults and hate speech” he added.
