Mumias East Peter Salasya has revealed that if no action is taken by the elders of his region, he will become the first luhya president.
The legislator declared his ambition on his official X page (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
Salasya called his elders asking them to start making plans for political standing in the region.
“Waluhya viongozi wasipo jipanga now yani our elder leaders wasipo jipanga I will be the first luhya president,” Salasya said.
Salasya for president
Despite the fact his win as a member of parliament seemed far-fetched, Salasya’s journey has led him from grass to grace, where as a bicycle hawker in Kakamega, he earned the support of Mumias East constituents.
Having initially run for MP in 2017, Salasya came in last among nine candidates, but this did not discourage him from retrying his political position.
Mumias constituents were pleased by his efforts and they backed him up because of his concerns about Mumias Sugar.
In 2022, Salasya again ran for the MP seat and won after gaining help from Eugene Wamalwa. Salasya became an active member of national politics right away.
“I prophesied about my destiny on 12 August 2018 to be the next MP of Mumias East constituency with no nothing staying in a single room in Kakamega Town Shikhambi slum,” Salasya added.
Salasya and controversy
Salisya is currently serving his first term as MP and was elected under the Azimio coalition on the DAP-K party ticket.
He recently fell out with Governor Fernandes Barasa, so he declared his interest in the Governorship position to teach him a lesson. They later put aside their differences and said to work together to focus on service delivery as they wait for elections in 2027.
“As the Governor of this great County, I am responsible for uniting all our leaders and I am glad to welcome back one of our own MP PK Salasya to work with us. What has been happening in the past was a small misunderstanding but that has been sorted,” Barasa said.
There have been numerous controversies surrounding Salasya since his election, and this was not the first altercation to occur.
Despite wrongfully rubbing shoulders with other politicians, Salasya’s compassion for the poor and vulnerable in Mumias has earned him the admiration and assuarance of Kenyans.
