President William Ruto gave a glowing tribute to prominent Kenyans abroad and in the country during his US visit in Atlanta Georgia.
Speaking after signing several MoUs with Kenyan and US universities to foster student and faculty exchange, research, and innovation, Ruto took time to acknowledge post-independence leader Tom Mboya, who assisted Kenyans to access further education in the United States.
“This partnership is one of the most successful achievements in the history of our relations. It begins with an ambitious people-to-people project, which we have come to know simply as the Mboya Airlift,” Ruto stated.
“…a visionary scholarship program initiated by two iconic leaders: TJ Mboya, a Kenyan freedom fighter and architect of our post-independence development agenda,” he added.
President Ruto remarked that the airlift alumni have made substantial contributions to Kenya’s development, leveraging their education, skills and experience to provide leadership across various sectors, and supporting the implementation of policies which promote job creation and economic empowerment.
The president also named other notable Kenyans among them Kenya’s iconic intellectual, veteran conservationist, and champion of social justice, Prof Wangari Maathai, who won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2004, the world-renowned and now American citizen neurosurgeon James Nabwangu, and Barack Obama Sr.
Ruto’s deals
Additionally, deals were announced to scale Kenya’s capabilities for tech skills, AI, and digital services for the future.
In his US visit, Ruto will be hoping to attract investment from US nationals thus solidifying Kenya as an appealing destination for tech jobs for both present and future needs.
Ruto will later head to Tyler Perry Studios where he will explore opportunities within the creative economy as a potential job creator. The President will then visit Coca-Cola, where new investment partnerships will be announced before launching Vivo’s inaugural store in America.
