“I know that success is the result of hard work,” was the parting shot of President-Elect William Ruto’s 38-year-old letter highlighting his childhood struggles and dreams.

Loaded with hopes and dreams, Ruto, in the letter written at Wareng High School in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County, expressed his desire to rise above all obstacles and achieve all his goals.

The letter dated 1984 highlights his birth details and family information as well as his struggles during his days at school.

“In my family, there is a father, two wives, nine brothers and seven sisters and a grandmother, hence a family of 20 bodies,” the letter reads in parts.

The Outgoing DP further expressed his determination to do well in school and also pointed out some of the challenges he was facing.

“In school, I enjoyed literature as a favourite subject, others are English, CRE, Maths and Geography. Despite of other subjects like Maths and Chemistry, being hard, have liked them so much,” the letter added.

His ambition to become a writer owing to his love for literature is also seen in the letter.

“Literature has been my best subject and with the help of God, I hope to write at least a book in the future,” he stated.

The former Eldoret Member of Parliament (MP) has however found himself entrenched in Kenyan politics a move that has seen him rise to become the country’s fifth president.

Julius Kamatei, the school’s principal disclosed that Ruto was a top achiever who was committed to academics and religion during his days at school.
