Kenya Kwanza’s Head of Presidential campaign and Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok has said the coalition would be taking legal actions against the Ministry of Sports for denying them access to the Nyayo Stadium.

In a press conference on Thursday, July 21, Nanok insisted that Kenya Kwanza was the first to book the venue for its last campaign rally; asking opponents to look for alternatives.

“We are prepared to challenge the Ministry of Sports, legally, because we have a signed contract. The contract hasn’t been cancelled,” Nanok said in a press conference at Ruto’s command centre in Westlands, Nairobi.

“Let’s not fight for a venue. Kenya is a big country,” he added.

The secretariat said it signed a contract with the organization responsible for Nyayo permits on July 12.

This follows a report by Sports Kenya that stated that both Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums had been booked and scheduled for use between August 5 and 7.

“We regret to inform you that due to peace concerts scheduled to take place at both Moi International Sports Centre-Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium between 5th to 7th, the facility will not be available for your use,” the statement signed by Pius Metto, the Sports Kenya Director General read.

Prior to this, Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition party announced that their final rally will be hosted at the Nyayo Stadium on August 6, the venue UDA says had booked.

“The Azimio campaign team, led by #babanamartha, will hold its last official campaign meeting in Nairobi on 6th August 2022 at Nyayo Stadium. #ilnawezekana!” a statement from the coalition party Secretary General Junet Mohamed read.
