President-elect William Ruto has nominated National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Veronica Maina and Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei to be his representatives in the Assumption of office of the President Committee.
The trio will facilitate the process of handing over by outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta if no petition is filed at the Supreme Court to challenge Ruto’s election by Monday, August 22, 2022.
Apart from this, the committee will also oversee his swearing-in, organise his security, co-ordinate his briefings, facilitate his personnel, and oversee communication between him and the outgoing president.
Ruto declared winner of presidential election
The seasoned politician was declared the winner of the presidential election with 7,176, 141 votes, which is 50.49 per cent of the total votes cast.
The country’s Deputy President narrowly beat Azimio One Kenya coalition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who garnered 48.5 per cent of the vote.
