Real Madrid presidential candidate reveals plans to hire Jürgen Klopp if elected

Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme has released a statement confirming Jurgen Klopp as his preferred choice for the manager’s job at the Bernabeu if he is elected in the team’s upcoming elections.
Riquelme is the leading competitor to Florentino Perez in the Sunday, May 7, 2026, presidential elections at Real Madrid.
He has already caused a stir with claims he would try to sign Erling Haaland if he were elected and has since added that he will also bring on board the former Liverpool manager.
Klopp’s willingness
According to Riquelme, the German has expressed a willingness to return to the touchline, a facet he looks to base his approach on.
“We know that Jurgen Klopp has publicly stated that he has no intention of returning to the dugout in the short term and that he has turned down numerous offers,” a statement from Riquelme’s office read.

“That is precisely why we believe the challenge of Real Madrid is different. Because there are great clubs, but there is only one Real Madrid. There is only one institution capable of uniting tradition and future, values and ambition, passion and excellence.
New era for Madrid
“For that reason, if the members grant me their trust this Sunday, on Monday, June 8, Raul Gonzalez Blanco [Real Madrid’s sporting director] will contact Jurgen Klopp to convey to him personally our sporting project and our wish for him to be the one to lead, from the bench, our new era at Real Madrid.”
This comes as the incumbent Perez revealed that Jose Mourinho will be the new Real Madrid head coach should he be elected on Sunday.
The Portuguese’s departure from SL Benfica has already been announced, with only Perez’s election win understood to be delaying the confirmation of The Special One’s official return to the Bernabéu.
