Firearm recovered in separate incident
Barely a week ago, a firearm stolen from a female police officer in Kasarani in February 2024 was discovered abandoned at the gate of the Githurai police post.
Additionally, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered an AK47 rifle at the residence of a suspected violent robber and drug trafficker in Mutuati, Meru County.
The Scorpion firearm found in Kasarani had been taken from Constable Mercy Mamboleo on February 16, during an attack on her and her colleague, Constable Immaculate Ngungi, while they were on night patrol in the Kiwanjani area of Githurai 44. The officers were ambushed by three men, one armed with a pistol, who overpowered them and stole the firearm.
Another officer discovered the abandoned firearm near the perimeter wall where water pipes are stored, upon reaching the gate of the police post.
“After inspection, it was established that it was the same firearm which had been stolen from Constable Mercy Mamboleo on February 16. The firearm is to be subjected to ballistic analysis,” police said.
