A 75-year-old man was on Saturday, July 30, 2022, lynched by an angry mob in Nyamira County, after the body of a missing four-year-old girl was found in his compound.

A police report seen by K24 Digital indicates that the body of the minor was found in the house of the deceased’s son identified as Edwin Mose.

According to the police, Precious Moraa was reported missing and her parents, Douglas Nyabuto and Mary Nyabuto involved the villagers in searching for her.

The villagers went door to door until around 7:00 pm when they got to Edwin’s house. He was not in the house.

Apparently, Edwin’s father, Moses Nyaneko, declined to allow the villagers to search the house.

The irate group was forced to break into the house where they found the body of the girl inside a sack placed in a basin of water.

The agitated mob beat Nyaneko to death before burning five houses in his compound.

“They found the body of the juvenile in a sack placed behind the door in a basin,” read part of the police report seen by K24 Digital.

Bodies moved to Nyamira Hospital mortuary

The two bodies were moved to Nyamira County Hospital mortuary as police seek to unravel the puzzle of the girl’s killing.

In the neighbouring Kisii County, Governor James Ongwae in 2021 appointed a task force to investigate the lynching of senior citizens linked to witcraft said to be on the rise in the area.
