Nakuru: Police inspector kills girlfriend, shoots himself

A police inspector attached to Mau summit, Kuresoi North Sub-County is nursing serious injuries at the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital after shooting himself in the head shortly after he shot dead his girlfriend.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, Joseph Lourien Akorot shot his girlfriend identified as Janet Chebet after she dropped off their four-year-old son at school.

Akorot shot Chebet in the back before he shot himself in the head.

“Police Inspector Joseph Lourien Akorot the Deputy OCS Mau summit accosted her girlfriend namely Janet Chebet- Kipsigis, aged about 30 yrs. on her way back to her residence, after escorting her child Rayain Kibiyator to a nearby Bishop Ndingi Private academy, and shot her on the back, the officer also turned the gun to himself and shot his head,” the police report read in part.

Chebet was pronounced dead on arrival at the Molo Sub-county hospital where they were rushed. The police inspector was rushed to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital in critical condition.

The motive behind the shooting is yet to be established.

Detectives investigating the incident recovered a Ceska pistol Serial number F4270 loaded with 9 rounds of 9mm, which was on the left-hand side where the officer was lying on the ground.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that around six rounds of 9mm ammunition were used.
