A middle-aged man linked to a criminal gang in Kuze Old Town, Mombasa, was found murdered on July 10, 2022.

Police said the body had stab wounds on the chest.

A police report seen by K24 Digital indicates the area chief reported the incident.

Tawfiq Abdalla Ali is said to have been attacked by unknown assailants armed with machetes who injured him before fleeing on a motorbike.

“Officers drawn from Central Police station visited the scene and established that the lifeless body of one, Tawfiq Abdalla Ali, was lying on the ground with blood oozing from his chest,” the police report read in part.

Killed by rival gang

Police believe that members of a rival criminal gang killed Ali after they allegedly fell out.

“The deceased is reported to be a member of a rival gang that has been operating in parts of Old Town and he is suspected of having been killed by members of another gang after a deal went sour,” an officer privy to details of the investigations intimated to K24 Digital.

No arrests have been made so far.

“Efforts to arrest the suspects, who are still at large, are ongoing. Officers are still combing the area and intensifying patrols to bring to book those behind the heinous acts,” police added.

Police moved the body to Coast General hospital pending autopsy and identification.
