Amin Mohammed has been sworn in as the Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Mohammed took oath of office at the Supreme Court buildings on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
The new DCI boss pledged to lead the directorate in the most professional manner and respect human rights.
“I am ready to lead DCI to deal with the challenges of our time,” Mohammed said.
He said he wants to be accessible to Kenyans and gave out his number his mobile phone number (0722415419) to the public.
“I want to urge foreigners and Kenyans at large to obey the law. I’m going to discharge my duties professionally with integrity. As a service, we shall adhere to the constitution. My phone number is 0722415419, any member of the public can reach me,” the new DCI boss added.
Mohammed takes over from George Kinoti who resigned last month.
The new DCI boss previously served as the head of the Internal Affairs Unit at the Police Service and had also worked in other senior positions with the CID Investigations Bureau and the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit.
10 candidates applied
Mohammed was among 10 candidates who were shortlisted for the position by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).
In a notice shared via the commission’s official social media pages on October 9, the commission said 253 applicants expressed interest in replacing Kinoti.
“The National Police Service Commission invited applications for the position of Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigation on 30th September 2022. A total of 253 (two hundred and fifty-three) applications were received,” the notice read in part.
DCI boss resigns
George Kinoti’s resignation was announced by President William Ruto while announcing his Cabinet nominees on Tuesday, September 27.
“The commission will get someone to act in that position (DCI) for now as we wait for the other processes to fill the position,” Ruto said.
