Victims of the recent Masimba shootings were on Sunday, June 11, 2022, laid to rest in a mass burial attended by their families, friends and political leaders.
A requiem mass was held for the slain quartet, who were shot dead during a protest against wildlife invasion, at the World Arising Church, Grace City in Masimba, Kajiado County.
After the mass, the bodies were transported to their mass grave for the final burial rites.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who attended the burial flanked by CS Keriako Tobiko and Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, implored the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to get to the root of the matter by bringing to book the GSU officers responsible for the shootings.
Kalonzo termed the killings an extrajudicial execution.
“This was an extra Judicial execution. Together with Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, CS Tobiko & other leaders, we ask that those responsible must be brought to book as soon as possible,” he posted.
The protestors were shot dead during a June 2 protest. They were part of a group of disgruntled residents who took to the streets to protest the invasion of their farms by wildlife.
GSU officers were then deployed to disperse the residents who had now barricaded the busy Mombasa Road.
Three protestors died on the spot while another was pronounced dead at a local hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds during the melee that ensued.
Addressing the shooting incident, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the apprehension of GSU officers responsible for the killings. The Head of State also ordered Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to ensure that all casualties receive medical attention.
