Gender-Based Violence Activists in Kilifi County are demanding the arrest of a police officer attached to the Marereni police station, in Magarini sub-county who allegedly defiled a minor in January this year.

The activists now claim that all due processes have been followed including filling in p3 forms and obtaining an OB number however efforts to have the officer arrested are being frustrated by his seniors.

The matter was reported to police under OB number 19/6/01/2022.

According to Helda Lammeck the chairperson, Malindi GBV network the minor is unable to attend school due to continued threats from the said police officer and has since gone into hiding at a rescue centre.

Lammeck said that the minor had continued to receive threats from the alleged police officer who is believed to be getting protection from his seniors.

He said the community is now beginning to lose trust in the police service and vowed to storm the police station and flush out the alleged police officer.

“We are now tired of the games being played by our officers, they are the same people required to offer us and our children protection however they have turned against us since no action has been taken yet six months down the line,” she said.

On his part Magarini Sub County Police Commander Daniel Kibio said that the matter has since been handed over to the directorate of criminal investigations officers(DCI) from Kilifi county to investigate the matter.
