Nearly half of Kenyans have increased stress, anxiety levels due to economic hardships – Infotrak

Nearly half of all Kenyans countrywide underwent emotional turmoil over the hard economic hardships, a report by Infotrak has revealed.

According to the statistics shared on Monday, January 22, 2024, 48 per cent of Kenyans suffered increased stress and anxiety levels due to the high cost of living which has become unbearable.

The report also revealed that 32 per cent of personal relationships were affected as a result of economic hardships.

Similarly, 21 per cent of Kenyans suffered health issues from economic hardships which also attributed to 18 per cent of mental health effects recorded among Kenyans.

Additionally, the statistics revealed that only five per cent of Kenyans are managing a comfortable life whereas 73 per cent are either in severe financial distress or struggling to make ends meet.

“Family and friends and Government assistance programs are the most helpful resources and support systems to deal with the economic hardships,” the Infotrak report stated.

Infotrak further revealed that most Kenyans are getting side hustles and reducing non-essential expenditures to cope with the harsh economic times.

Out of the Kenyans quoted, 45 per cent are working part-time to supplement their income, 41 per cent have cut out expenses on non-essential expenditures whereas 18 per cent have taken out loans to fill the gaps.
