The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has cautioned newly elected Governors against suspending or dismissing staff without following the law.
This warning comes as a result of actions taken against staff by some of the County Governors who recently assumed office.
In a statement, EACC’s Head of Corporate Affairs and Communication, Eric Ngumbi warned that such suspension and dismissal of staff are likely to breach labour laws.
“Suspension and dismissal of staff, if done arbitrarily and outside the applicable laws, policies and guidelines, may attract labour suits leading to loss of public funds through payment of damages and costs,” EACC said.
The anti-graft body also urged the Governors to inform them of any corruption cases before taking action pledging to investigate and handle the suspects in accordance with the law.
“EACC urges incoming Governors who have allegedly discovered corruption schemes and other malpractices in their counties such as fraudulent pending bills, inflated costs of projects and ghost workers to promptly share such information with EACC,” the commission added.
This development comes after a section of Governors who assumed office on August 25, 2022, sent several officers on compulsory leave over graft claims.
Among them are Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and her Kisii counterpart Simba Arati.
