Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has opened up on his court case with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Duale who appeared in a televised interview with a local TV station on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, said Kalonzo has taken him to court over his book, For The Record.
Duale’s book
Duale said the book is doing well and that he has sold many copies despite being taken to court by Kalonzo.
Kalonzo sued Duale for what he termed as misrepresenting facts in his book.
“My book is doing very well, my book is still the best-selling book in town. I have sold, now I am not broke. Kalonzo Musyoka has sued me, I know the matter is in court but he said that when I said when he met former President Uhuru Kenyatta and our current President, and he told them you guys are young and you’ll be jailed for only 10 years at the ICC. Please go and serve your 10 years and when you come back I’ll give you the leadership,” Duale said.
Duale, however, pointed out that he has assembled a team of good lawyers to help him win the case.
The former Garissa Township MP said Uhuru and President Kenyatta, who are his witnesses, are all still around.
Duale noted that President Ruto is his main witness in the case since he approved the book when he agreed to do a foreword for the book.
“I can’t believe it because all the witnesses, the former President Uhuru and President Ruto are around. The President himself did my foreword, and when someone does a foreword, it means he has approved the facts as represented in the book,” Duale added.
Kalonzo on Duale’s book
While speaking on his intentions to sue in January 2024, Kalonzo claimed Duale’s account of a visit by former President Kenyatta and his successor, Ruto to his house was not factual.
Kalonzo maintained that he had never told the duo (Uhuru and Ruto) that they would be jailed at the Hague as claimed by Duale in his book.
Kalonzo who spoke in an interview with a local radio station said the meeting at his house was planned by politician-cum businessman Jimmi Wanjigi as they sought to broker a deal and lineup ahead of the 2013 elections.
Kalonzo did not, however, reveal when the suit would be filed in court and the exact charges against Duale.
Duale has confirmed that the case was filed and that his team of lawyers is doing a good job in defending the case.
