A 29-year-old medical doctor is among 35 people whose lives were cut short in a road crash involving a Modern Coast bus at Nithi Bridge in Tharaka Nithi on Sunday evening, K24 Digital has established.

The distressed family of the promising doctor said she was working at Life Care hospital in Meru on a contract basis.

Mary was expected to start her new job on August 1, 2022.

Speaking to a local media station, the deceased’s mother, Evangeline Mwandisha, said she spoke to Mary a few hours before she met her untimely death.

”She called me before boarding and she promised to call upon arrival. I was worried when I woke up at 6 am and realized that her phone was not going through after failing to notify me,” Evangeline told The Standard.

”I was a hopeful parent, my daughter had many dreams to achieve. She was on the right path and her untimely death is such a big blow.”

The fourth born in a family of five graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2020.

Born and bred in Kilifi county, Mary’s brothers described her as a brilliant girl who excelled in her studies all the way up.

She scored 422 marks from Kibaoni Primary School and was admitted to Alliance Girls where she scored an A plain, earning herself a scholarship from Kesho Kenya to pursue her dream course at the University of Nairobi.

After graduating from UoN she interned at Taita Taveta County Government for one year. She later worked at Tsavo hospital in Voi for three months before proceeding to Life Care hospital in Meru where she had been working for the last three months.

Burial plans are underway.
