Amin Mohammed Ibrahim appointed new DCI boss

President William Ruto has appointed the new director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI).

In a gazette notice dated October 14, 2022, the Head of State has appointed Amin Mohammed Ibrahim to replace former boss George Kinoti following his resignation.

“Amin Mohammed Ibrahim to be the director of DCI,” part of the notice read.

Ibrahim previously served as the head of the Internal Affairs Unit at the Police Service and had also worked in other senior positions with the CID Investigations Bureau and the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit. 

10 shortlisted candidates

His appointment follows the release of 10 shortlisted candidates for the job released by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).

In a notice shared via the commission’s official social media pages, the entity stated that 253 applicants expressed interest in the vacant post previously occupied by former DCI boss George Kinoti.

“The National Police Service Commission invited applications for the position of Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigation on 30th September 2022. A total of 253 (two hundred and fifty-three) applications were received,” the notice reads in parts.

It however noted that only 10 had been selected for interviews and vetting set to take place at Kenya School of Government in lower kabete, Nairobi County on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

The commission additionally announced that members of the public were invited to submit any credible information regarding the candidates shortlisted.

“Members of the public are invited to submit any credible information relating to the shortlisted candidates through written memoranda to the Commission Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer, National Police Service Commission, Sky Park Plaza, 5th Floor Woodvale Close, Westlands or online through [email protected] so as to be received on or before Monday, 10th October 2022,” the notice added

Kinoti resigns

George Kinoti’s resignation was announced by President Ruto while announcing his Cabinet nominees on Tuesday, September 27.

“The commission will get someone to act in that position (DCI) for now as we wait for the other processes to fill the position,” Ruto said.

At the same time, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai proceeded on his terminal leave six months before his term at the helm of the police service elapsed.

“After discussing with Mutyambai, I have accepted his terminal leave.

“I have transmitted the same to the National Police Service to proceed with advertising that position,” Ruto said.
