A couple and its son perished in a fatal road accident at Kimende town in Kiambu county along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Sunday evening when the vehicle they were travelling in collided head-on with a lorry.

Another couple and its two sons escaped the accident with serious injuries and are receiving treatment at AIC Kijabe Hospital in Lari sub-county.

The seven family members were travelling from a family meeting in Molo, Nakuru County to Nairobi before the accident happened.

Confirming the incident, Lari sub-county police commander Adamson Furaha said that the lorry’s driver ran away soon after the accident occurred adding that a manhunt has since been launched.

“The driver of the canter lorry fled soon after the accident but we’re looking for him. We think he might be having injuries and hence we call upon anyone who might see him to report to us,” he said.

He added that investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the grisly accident.

Family members of the deceased led by George Mungai said they were shocked when they learnt about the accident.

He said that those in the hospital are in stable condition including their grandsons who are three and four months respectively.

“We had spent one week with the family after celebrating Easter and they left yesterday for Nairobi. It’s sad and unfortunate that the cruel hand of death has snatched some of them from us” he said amid tears.
