Three people were killed on Monday, June 13, after a lorry they were travelling in was involved in an accident near Kiambere dam on Embu-Kitui Highway.
The truck, which was transporting fertilizers to Embu town, rolled several times before bursting into flames.
Mtitu Ngiiri area chief David Muli told K24 Digital that the victims, who included a 48-year-old man and two youths, were burnt beyond recognition.

The administrator said efforts by villagers to rescue the trio’s lives were unsuccessful due to the huge fire.
Also, firefighters from KenGen, who responded to the scene, couldn’t put out the fire in good time to save their lives.
“The lorry was heading to Embu. The driver of the lorry lost control of the vehicle while approaching the Sheria roundabout. It rolled several times before bursting into flames,” Muli said.
An eyewitness said villagers were unable to open the vehicle’s doors due to the impact of the crash.
In a separate incident, two people died after a pit latrine they were digging collapsed at Nyanjuri Secondary School in Tharaka Nithi County.
Kimanthi Mwaniki and Karani Njue were trapped after the latrine collapsed on Monday at about 2:00 pm.
Meru South Deputy Commissioner Hilabae Nkaduda confirmed the incident saying the last body was retrieved in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.
“The pit collapsed and since yesterday afternoon we have been working hard to rescue them in conjunction with other government entities and citizens,“ he said.
The bodies were moved to Chuka Referral Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
