England winger Bukayo Saka brought some light-hearted humour to a recent press conference with a brutally honest response regarding England’s status as one of the strongest teams at the 2026 World Cup.

In an interview on Thursday, July 9, 2026—ahead of England’s quarter-final clash with Norway – the Arsenal ace was asked which team he would prefer to face between Switzerland and Argentina, who face off in the other quarter-final tie. He was also pressed for his opinion on which team is the strongest in the tournament and why.

Short and blunt

In a cheeky yet brilliant response, the winger calmly and curtly stated it was his own team, England. When a puzzled “why?” came from the interviewer, Saka stood by his curt retort, replying, “It’s my opinion.”

His confidence drew a burst of laughter from the gathered journalists, with Saka himself joining in on the light-hearted moment.

Saka is now gearing up for the high-stakes clash against Norway on Sunday, July 12, 2026, aiming to help the Three Lions book a spot in the final four.

After starting the tournament on the sidelines and coming off the bench twice, the winger reclaimed his starting role in the Round of 16 against Mexico in a thrilling 3-2 victory and is focused on the task ahead.

“Norway are a good team and have shown so far that they are a direct side playing with confidence. For me, each game has been unique. I come on and try to change the game or do what is required; my mindset does not change, and the focus remains entirely on winning,” he said.

Saka on Haaland’s threat

Key to England’s prospects for qualification to the last eight will surely lie in the Three Lions’ ability to stop Manchester City powerhouse Erling Haaland, and Saka stated just how prepared the team is.

“We have played against him in the Premier League, and we know exactly what he can do. We will try to defend well against him and the rest of his teammates,” Saka added.

The winner of the clash will meet either Switzerland or Argentina for a place in the competition’s final.
