Are you a “March boy” or “March babe,” you might want to rethink your sporting potential—you share a month teeming with the birth of legendary sports personalities, both locally and abroad.

Global icons

The month boasts stars such as NBA point guard and perennial winner Wardell Stephen Curry II, better known as Steph Curry. The Golden State Warriors talisman was born on March 14 in Akron, Ohio. He is joined by other global icons, ranging from Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o to Premier League stalwarts.

The Harambee Stars connection

Within the men’s national team, the Harambee Stars currently feature several players who recently celebrated their milestones. These include Zech Obiero, the England-based Kenyan prospect who marked his 21st birthday with a maiden call-up to the senior squad. Joining him in the “March Stars” club are Gor Mahia’s goalkeeping pair, Gad Mathews and Byrne Omondi.

Rising Stars and continental legends

On the women’s side, Kenyan international and Ulinzi Starlets defender Lorine Illavonga shares a March birthday, having been born on March 17.

She is in elite company with Zambia’s iconic Shepolopolo attacker, Barbra Banda. Interestingly, Banda shares her March 20 birth date with Kenyan rugby sensation Patrick Odongo, the fast-paced Shujaa 7s star born in 2002.

Athletics powerhouses

Local athletics is also well-represented by Sebastian Sawe, one of the most promising distance runners of our time. Sawe, a holder of elite titles, is preparing to return to the London Marathon course on April 26, 2026, to defend his crown.

Having recently celebrated his 31st birthday, the athlete hopes the good tidings of his birth month will propel him to a win and maintain his unbeaten status.

The ‘Ronaldo’ legacy and international greats

An array of former international legends also share the month, led by former Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho. Nicknamed “Gaúcho”, reflecting his Rio Grande do Sul origins and distinguishing him from the legendary Ronaldo Nazário (R9)—he shares a March 21 birthday with French World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann.

Rounding out this elite list are Chelsea legend Didier Drogba (March 11), African icon Samuel Eto’o (March 10), Arsenal defender William Saliba (March 24), and Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho (March 25).
