Kenyan prospect Zak Vyner made a full shift for Wrexham, signing off for the international break with an away win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Josh Windass and Sam Smith scored second-half goals after Sam Blades had opened the scoring for the hosts.

The versatile player retained his spot in the team, which started the 3-1 defeat to Watford on Thursday, March 19, 2026, as they sought a perfect response to the loss.

Harambee Stars call-up

Another solid performance saw the player, redeployed as a defensive midfielder, get involved in a goal.

The Kenyan prospect spread the play wide to the winger Issa Kabore, who in turn crossed into Smith’s pass to sweep home the 78th-minute goal.

He is among the England-based stars called up to the Kenyan national team and could be in line for his debut after documentation issues barred him from his first appearances for Harambee Stars last time.

After the game, assistant coach Steve Parkin sent out a strong message to the team heading to the final round of games for the season.

“We have to play one game at a time, and we have seen how anybody can beat anybody else in the division. We head to the break, a perfect opportunity to refresh and come back to the final seven games,” he told the club’s portal.

Promotion chase

In just their championship debut, the Welsh club has been an epiphany in the English second-tier league and is among the contenders for promotion to the top flight.

The win came in handy as Phil Parkinson’s men breathed life into their promotion playoff chase, moving to seventh on 63 points, equal with Southampton at sixth.

Two teams will be promoted to the EPL at the end of the season, with fourth to sixth place fighting in a decisive promotion playoff to determine the final team to join the two.

Vyner arrived at Wrexham from Bristol City in January. He has gradually grown into his role at the promotion-chasing team, with an impressive performance against EPL giants Chelsea in the FA Cup on Saturday, March 7, 2026, being his first start for the team.
