Cabinet Secretary for Sports Salim Mvurya has lauded the success of the 2026 Kip Keino Classic, describing it as a powerful demonstration of Kenya’s enduring excellence in global athletics.

In a Saturday morning, April 25, 2026 statement following the high-profile event held under the floodlights of Nyayo National Stadium on Friday, April 24, 2026, Mvurya praised the competition for delivering a blend of class, hospitality, and an unforgettable fan experience. He noted that the meet once again placed Kenya firmly at the center of the global athletics stage.

“From electrifying sprints to commanding distance races and exceptional field performances, the event reaffirmed Kenya’s place at the heart of global athletics,” Mvurya said.

The Kip Keino Classic, part of the prestigious World Athletics Continental Tour, attracted top-tier local and international athletes, who delivered thrilling performances across track and field disciplines. The competition not only highlighted elite talent but also reinforced Kenya’s reputation as a hub of sporting excellence.

Mvurya extended his congratulations to all athletes who took part in the event, commending their determination, discipline, and resilience. He emphasized that every competitor, regardless of podium finish, played a role in inspiring future generations through sport.
