Liverpool boss Arne Slot has provided an injury update on Mohammed Salah ahead of the Reds’ clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford this Sunday, May 3, 2026.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Friday, May 1, 2026, the Dutch gaffer disclosed that Salah will not be part of the team’s squad as the third-placed Red Devils meet the Merseyside club

The Egyptian, who disclosed he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season, went off injured in their last outing against Crystal Palace. However, the club has since confirmed the injury as a minor issue.

Not for Sunday

“He has a minor injury; we expect him to be back for the final part of the season, but not for Sunday. It is a big relief that the injury is minor and that he is able to play for the World Cup and us. He is always working incredibly hard to be back as soon as possible” he said.

The absence of Mohammed Salah from the Liverpool ranks remains a setback. The Egyptian has a great Old Trafford record, scoring 10 goals in nine appearances there. Seven straight in consecutive visits. Salah is the eighth-highest scorer of Premier League goals at Old Trafford in the 2020s. And that includes Man United players.

The news will be more balanced with United, with Lisandro Martinez expected to miss to due to suspension.

The Argentinian defender serves the last of his three-game ban for his straight red card in the defeat to Leeds United. However, Leny Yoro made his return to the squad against Brentford after missing the Chelsea game through injury and came on as a second-half substitute for Luke Shaw.

Head-to-head

United have the chance of completing the home and away double against their nemesis for the first time since the 2007-2008 season.

In between that time, Liverpool have inflicted some seriously embarrassing defeats across several United managers, not least the 5-0, 4-0, and 7-0 hammerings between 2021 and 2023.

The form for United in the second part of the season, however, indicates that such results are extremely unlikely and the home side will approach the clash as favourites.

The match kicks off at 5:30 pm.
