Spanish Super Cup: Kenyan star Job Ochieng set for showdown against Real Madrid and Barcelona

Kenya’s La Liga-based striker Job Ochieng of Real Sociedad is set to face off against Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona for the 2027 Spanish Super Cup silverware.
This comes after the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Thursday, August 13, 2026, struck a deal to host the upcoming edition of the cup tie in Istanbul, Turkey. The clashes have been set for February 2–7, 2027, at the Atatürk Stadium.
Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid concludes the four-team list.
2027 Spanish Super Cup
“The tournament, which brings together four of the biggest clubs in Spanish football, including the champions of La Liga and the Copa del Rey, will return to Saudi Arabia in 2028. In 2027, Saudi Arabia will host the AFC Asian Cup during dates coinciding with the Super Cup, which is why the RFEF worked to secure an alternative venue for this next edition,” the RFEF said in a statement.
The Kenyan attacker enjoyed a fine run with Real Sociedad B through 2025 and 2026, where his consistent performances caught the attention of the first-team coaching staff led by Pellegrino Matarazzo.
Among his catalogue of goals were back-to-back goals against Cádiz CF and Málaga in February, followed by another strike for Real Sociedad B in a 3–2 defeat to Deportivo de La Coruña on Saturday, March 2, 2026.

His form earned him a call-up on July 2, 2026, when he was included in Real Sociedad’s senior squad for their 2026/27 pre-season preparations.
“This year, twelve youngsters will train with the senior squad during summer preparations. The players are: Fraga, Kita, Beitia, Balda, Lebarbier, Aguirre, Mikel Rodríguez, Carbonell, Dani Díaz, Ochieng, Marchal, and Carrera,” the club confirmed.

A strong showing during pre-season could convince the technical bench to hand the Kenyan international a permanent spot in the senior squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign and the upcoming dream clashes against La Liga’s heavyweights.
Ochieng was an unused substitute in their last season’s famous 2-1 win against Barcelona.
Barcelona are the defending champions, having celebrated winning their sixteenth Spanish Super Cup title at the Alinma Stadium on January 11, 2026.
