Real Madrid’s Ksh15.3B offer for Yan Diomande turned down by RB Leipzig

Real Madrid have stepped up their pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, but their first attempt to sign the highly-rated youngster has been unsuccessful.
According to Sky Germany, Leipzig have rejected an offer worth £85.4 million (Ksh15 billion) from the Spanish giants. The proposal consisted of an initial payment of £76.9 million (Ksh13.6 billion), with a further £8.5 million (Ksh1.5 billion) tied to performance-related bonuses.
Madrid have already strengthened their squad significantly during the current transfer window following Jose Mourinho’s return to the club. Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella have all arrived as part of the club’s summer rebuild.
Liverpool are also monitoring Diomande’s situation and have shown interest in bringing him to Anfield. However, the Premier League club are not prepared to exceed £85 million for the explosive wide player.
If Liverpool eventually completed a deal at that valuation, it would comfortably eclipse the previous Premier League record fee paid for a teenager, surpassing the £58.9 million Manchester United agreed to pay Lille for Leny Yoro in 2024.
Diomande’s priority
Despite interest from both Real Madrid and Liverpool, Diomande is reportedly prioritising a move to Paris Saint-Germain. Although the French champions have yet to submit an official offer, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has already held discussions with Leipzig over a potential transfer.
The Ivory Coast international is understood to have already agreed personal terms on a contract running until 2031 with the Champions League winners. Nevertheless, Leipzig remain under no pressure to sell and are expected to part with the winger only if they receive an exceptional offer.
Rapid rise
Diomande’s rise has been remarkable. Just a year ago, his senior experience was limited to six starts for Leganes towards the end of their relegation campaign in LaLiga.
The teenager scored twice during that spell, finding the net against Espanyol and Real Valladolid, despite Leganes struggling for goals in several other matches.
Those performances convinced Leipzig to invest €20 million to sign him, and he has since developed into one of the Bundesliga’s standout attacking talents.
Blessed with blistering pace, flair and unpredictability, Diomande has become one of the most exciting young wingers in European football. His natural ability, combined with steady improvement, has attracted some of the continent’s biggest clubs, while his soaring valuation has placed him beyond the reach of many others.
