“The Betis players are smarter than those of Real Madrid. Those of Real Madrid are pure; they get up quickly. [Betis] are smarter. I don’t know how Güler ended up with a yellow in the first half. Then they went after him, and I had to take him off,” the Portuguese manager said regarding the match’s proceedings.

On a more sportsmanlike note, Mourinho ultimately downplayed the defeat, admitting that while the loss hurts, it is still early days in the league season.
“Sometimes you lose and sometimes you win. The match belonged to Real Madrid. We took 18 shots, had 7 clear chances, and their goalkeeper made 4 impressive saves. We are still in the early stages of the season, and I don’t expect us to win every match. It hurts that it happened against Betis, and the referee didn’t do well either. But it is what it is. I am happy with my players, and I’m not going to blame them,” he said.
