Kenneth Muguna takes brutal swipe at Gor Mahia following Tusker defeat

Former Gor Mahia ace Kenneth Muguna has slammed the club’s recent complaints over the state of the pitch during their FKF PL clash against Tusker FC on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

In a hard-hitting and controversial statement on his X page on Tuesday, the Botswana-based midfielder blamed Gor for failing to deliver on the pitch and instead opting to vent their frustration after the loss.

With the defeat coming at a potentially decisive juncture in the league title race, Muguna—a multiple league winner with Gor and Kenya Police FC—shared his thoughts on the blame placed on the conditions in Mwea, where the host team elected to hold the encounter.

Champions play anywhere

He added that while he is not advocating for hosting matches on poor or substandard surfaces, Gor ought to have demonstrated a champion’s spirit by getting the job done before lodging complaints.

“Champions perform anywhere, whether the environment is hostile, the pitch is poor, or the venue is far from home,” his statement read in part.

“We have won league titles playing in places like Narok, Kinoru, Awendo, Muhoroni, Chemelil, and Thika, among others. I am not advocating for bad pitches, but win first, then you can complain after the victory,” he explained.

Much of the buildup saw Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor decry the initial scheduling and postponement of the clash, remarks that K’Ogalo’s gaffer revisited after the defeat.

“How this match was organised, and the fact that we had to play here, is dangerous for the players and not just my team but all opponents. It’s a bumpy pitch, and it’s not healthy for the competition. We need to have good fields to play on. Nonetheless, it should not be an excuse,” he stated.

The defeat threw a spanner in the works heading into the homestretch, with Gor’s loss leaving the title charge wide open in a thrilling two-horse race with AFC Leopards.

K’Ogalo, who now leads proceedings by two points, will face Bandari FC in their next assignment, as AFC Leopards take on Kenya Police FC before the two sides meet in the 99th Mashemeji Derby at Nyayo Stadium.
