KCB Women’s Volleyball Team head coach Japheth Munala has exuded belief in his squad as they gear up for the upcoming Africa Club Championships set to take place in Cairo, Egypt.

Munala has maintained that the team is heading to the continental showpiece with clear ambitions, as CAVB has announced major changes to the competitions.

Speaking ahead of the championships, Munala emphasised that his charges are well aware of the magnitude of the task ahead but remain undeterred, stating they are not making the trip just to participate but to compete strongly against Africa’s elite clubs

Munala confident

While acknowledging the stiff competition expected at the tournament, the tactician backed his players to rise to the occasion. “We are aware that the tournament will be highly competitive because it brings together the best clubs in Africa. However, we believe in the strength of our squad and are confident of putting up a strong performance,” Munala told Kenya Volleyball Federation.

KCB will be returning to the continental stage with a point to prove after falling short in last year’s edition held in Abuja, where they were eliminated at the quarterfinal stage. The team is keen to make amends this time around and push deeper into the tournament.

The final squad list is set to be unveiled on Friday as the team wraps up its training program ahead of departure scheduled for Saturday.

Oilers depart for Egypt

Elsewhere, Kenya Pipeline Company, popularly known as the Oilers, were the first Kenyan representatives to jet out to Egypt. The national champions left the country in the early hours of Thursday at 2:00 am as they begin their journey to Cairo.

The Oilers secured their slot in the prestigious competition after clinching the national title and will be joined by KCB as well as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) team.

DCI will be making their debut appearance at the continental level after an impressive campaign saw them finish second locally, defying expectations to book their place among Africa’s top clubs.

With three Kenyan teams set to grace the tournament, the country will be hoping for a strong representation and possibly a deep run as they face off against some of the continent’s most formidable sides.
