Harambee Stars ace Moses Shumah rallies Zambian club for Rivers United rematch

By , January 31, 2026

A bullish Harambee Stars and Power Dynamos striker, Moses Shumah, has remained hopeful of a positive result against their CAF Champions League Group opponents, Rivers United.

Speaking ahead of the clash scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 2026, Shumah exuded optimism that the Zambian champions can get maximum points on enemy territory and salvage their dwindling prospect of making it out of the highly competitive group.

“There is nothing impossible; we only need to put in the hard work in training and be positive. I am hopeful we can get the results we need,” he stated.

Power vs Rivers rematch

Shumah’s sentiments come after Oswald Mutapa’s side battled to a barren draw against the Nigerian club in their third clash of the CAF Champions League group C tie on Saturday, at a home clash in Ndola Stadium in Zambia.

Despite earning their maiden point from the group, Power remains rooted at the bottom of the standings with one point, the same as Rivers United.

The two clubs, however, face an almost impossible task of catching up with the leading pack, with Pyramids FC leading the standings after matchday 3.

A defeat or draw will leave Power Dynamos trailing the leading pack of RS Berkane and Pyramids further, with only two games left to conclude the group encounter.

Kenyans on CAF Duty

Apart from Shumah, Duke Abuya, Levis Opiyo, and Kenyan representatives in the CAF Confederations Cup form the other contingent of Harambee Stars internationalists awaiting continental duty.

Abuya, whose side slumped to a 2-0 defeat to record African giants Al Ahly, will be in action on Saturday, January 31, 2026, as Young Africans host the Egyptians for the decisive return leg at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Yanga are placed second in Group B behind Al Ahly, who dictate proceedings in the group. The East Africans are on four points, two ahead of Morocco’s AS FAR and the Algerian side, AS Kablylie.

The clash will kick off at 4:00 pm.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Bajaber’s Simba SC and Levis Opiyo of Zesco United are also on the verge of elimination from the continental games.

Bajaber’s Simba are at the bottom of their group D standings in the CAF CL, while Opiyo’s Zesco will also be hunting to remain in the competition as they play Kaizer Chiefs away in Durban on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

The Tanzanian giants risk an early elimination from the CAF CL if they fail to secure a result in their matchday 4 return-leg clash against ES Tunis on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in Tanzania.
