Footballer David Owori killed in brutal attack

Ugandan football giants SC Villa have announced the tragic death of their club captain, David Owori, following what the club described as a brutal attack by unknown individuals.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, August 5, 2026, SC Villa said the club was devastated by the loss of its skipper, describing him as an influential player, leader and dedicated servant of the game.
“SC Villa Football Club is devastated to confirm the death of its Club Captain, David Owori, following a brutal attack by unknown individuals,” the statement read.
The club extended its heartfelt condolences to Owori’s family, teammates, friends, supporters and the wider football community as they mourn his passing.
“The Club commiserates with David’s family, teammates, friends, supporters, and the entire football fraternity during this painful moment. David was a valuable player, leader, and servant of the game whose loss is deeply felt by both the Club and the nation,” SC Villa added.
SC Villa also pledged to stand by the late captain’s family and ensure he receives a dignified burial.
At the same time, the club urged security and law enforcement agencies to move swiftly to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
“We also call upon the relevant security and law enforcement agencies to urgently pursue, apprehend, and bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” the statement said.
The club described the killing as a senseless act that has robbed both SC Villa and Uganda of a committed captain and promising sportsman.
“This senseless act has robbed the Club and the country of a committed captain and a promising sportsman, and it must not go unanswered,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding the attack on David Owori have not yet been disclosed, and authorities are expected to investigate the incident. The death of Owori has sent shockwaves through Ugandan football, with tributes pouring in from across the region as the sport mourns one of its respected leaders.
