FKF Cup: Homeboyz get an emphatic win in honour of departed player Silas Abungana
By Luke Oluoch, February 7, 2026Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League sides Murang’a Seal and Kakamega Homeboyz have made statement starts to their FKF Shield Cup games with emphatic victories over lower league opposition in the round of 64 tie staged across the country.
Homeboyz thrashed Amani Youth 5-1 in a one-sided clash staged at Kisumu’s Mamboleo Stadium as Seal scored nine past a hapless Kahawa Pride.
In another clash, struggling Ulinzi Stars needed a penalty kick to stop a plucky Kamel Park team in the clash staged at the Gusii Stadium.
Victor Haki led the TuriAMumbi thrashing of the lower league side, scoring a hat trick in the 9-1 scoreline.
Haki sparked the early rout with a well-placed header before Lucas Maina doubled the score.
John Kiplangat and the substitute pair of Macharia and Joe Waithira also joined the scoring party as Osborne Monday’s team made light work of their opponents.

In Kisumu, Kakamega Homeboyz made a fitting send-off for departed player Silas Abunanga by thrashing Amani Youth.
The clash started on a high note with Moses Mudavadi storming Patrick Odhiambo’s team to an early lead.
Majaka on the double
Oliver Majaka doubled the advantage ten minutes later as the FKF PL side asserted dominance on opening exchanges.
Majaka claimed his brace after the restart, scoring a sublime strike in the 61st minute before Peter Thiong’o ended the tie as a contest.
The host grabbed a late consolation with twenty minutes left to play.
Elsewhere, Ulinzi Stars rode a costly handling blunder by Kamel Park Rangers’ goalkeeper in a 1-0 win over the lower-tier side. Boniface Muchiri stepped forward to dispatch the decisive penalty after the keeper handled the ball outside his area.
The competition will continue on Sunday with AFC Leopards and Shaban FC among the teams on duty.
Fred Ambani’s AFC Leopards will be away to BB Bread at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
Ingwe were drawn against FKF Nairobi East Regional League side in the preliminary draw conducted on Thursday, January 29, 2026
The tie will be preceded by a mouthwatering fixture pitting Nairobi fans’ favourite club, the Githurai All-Stars, against former winners, Bandari FC, at 1:00 pm.
The country’s premier knockout tournament attracted 64 teams in the 2026 edition, with 15 FKF PL sides also confirming participation.
