Homeboyz dedicate dedicate Amani Youth Cup encounter to fallen defender Silas Abungana

Former Football Kenya Federation Cup winners Kakamega Homeboyz have dedicated their Round of 64 Cup encounter against Amani Youth FC to club’s departed defender Silas Abungana, who passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
While receiving treatment at the Kakamega County General Hospital, Abungana succumbed to his head injuries inflicted on him by his brother over a domestic brawl. As Homeboyz take to the pitch for the first time without Abungana at the Mamboleo Grounds in Kisumu starting at 1:00 pm local time, the club will be remembering the days Silas spent with them at Bukhungu.

”The game unites us, even in grief. Today, we step onto the pitch for the very first time without our dearly departed brother, Silas Abungana.
As one team, one family, we dedicate today’s match to his memory. We play in his honour, in his spirit, and with his strength in our hearts as we stand united for our defender, Silas. Forever in our hearts, Silas,” the club said in a statement on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Following the demise, Kakamega Homeboyz has also called for privacy as detectives swing into action for the investigation.

Tragic end
”Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club is deeply devastated by the untimely demise of Silas Abungana. The club can confirm that Silas passed away a few minutes before midnight on Wednesday,4 February, while receiving treatment at Kakamega County General Hospital, this after succumbing to head injuries sustained during an attack on Tuesday, 3 February night,” the statement said in part.
”During this incredibly difficult time, we respectfully request privacy for Silas’ family, teammates, friends, and club officials as we come to terms with this unimaginable loss. The club will issue further communication in due course. Rest in Peace, Silas.” It added.
Meanwhile, Football Kenya Federation Premier League matches have paused to pave the way for the 2026 FKF Cup action that kicks off on the weekend of Saturday, February 7, 2026, across different venues nationwide.
