FIFA, CAF to visit Kenya over FKF governance concerns
World football governing body FIFA has announced plans to send a joint delegation with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to Kenya to address ongoing governance and leadership issues within the Football Kenya Federation.
In a letter addressed to FKF President Hussein Mohammed, Vice-President McDonald Mariga and General Secretary Dennis Gicheru on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, FIFA reiterated the need for all matters affecting the federation’s leadership and administration to be handled strictly in accordance with the FKF Constitution to safeguard the organisation’s stability and proper functioning.
The communication, signed by FIFA Team Lead for Member Association Governance Services Ahmed Harraz, referenced previous correspondence between the parties, including a letter dated May 25, 2026, sent to members of the FKF National Executive Committee regarding the leadership wrangles reported at the Goal Project lately over alleged funds mismanagement.

According to FIFA, the planned mission is being organised jointly with CAF and is expected to take place as soon as possible, but no later than June 18, 2026.
The visit aims to provide FIFA and CAF officials with an opportunity to engage directly with FKF National Executive Committee members and gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues currently affecting the federation.
FIFA and CAF visit
“The purpose of this visit will be to engage directly with the members of the FKF National Executive Committee and to discuss in detail the current situation, with a view to obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the matters at hand and providing appropriate guidance,” the letter stated.
As part of its intervention, FIFA urged members of the FKF National Executive Committee to refrain from holding further meetings or making decisions that could influence the federation’s governance, leadership or overall stability before the FIFA-CAF mission takes place and discussions are concluded.

The world football body emphasised that the request is intended to protect institutional stability within Kenyan football while ensuring that all stakeholders are afforded an opportunity to engage with FIFA and CAF before any further actions are taken.
FIFA also requested that the correspondence be shared with all members of the FKF National Executive Committee for their consideration and information.
The development highlights growing concern from both FIFA and CAF regarding the current situation within Kenyan football administration. The forthcoming visit is expected to provide clarity on the issues at hand and guide the federation on the appropriate way forward in line with its constitutional framework and international football governance standards.
FIFA concluded the letter by expressing confidence that all concerned parties would cooperate with the process and allow the international football bodies to assess the situation before any additional steps are taken.
