FKF welcomes FIFA directive after rejecting Hussein Mohammed’s suspension

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has welcomed the reinstatement of President Hussein Mohammed and other top brass at the federation following the recent suspension by a section of the FKF’s National Executive Committee members over purported funds mismanagement at the Goal Project.

In a statement released on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, FKF confirmed that it had received communication from the world football governing body FIFA regarding recent governance-related developments within the federation. The developments have involved disagreements among members of the FKF National Executive Committee over the administration and leadership of the federation.

FIFA writes to FKF

According to FKF, FIFA emphasised the need for strict adherence to the FKF Constitution and established governance procedures in handling matters concerning the management of Kenyan football.

The federation further noted that FIFA stressed the importance of institutional stability, due process, restraint, and respect for the recognised constitutional framework when addressing leadership disputes.

“FIFA reaffirmed the importance of strict adherence to the FKF Constitution and established governance procedures in matters relating to the administration and leadership of the Federation,” part of the statement read.

FKF also assured stakeholders that the federation remains fully operational despite the ongoing governance concerns. The federation reiterated its commitment to promoting good governance, transparency, constitutional order, and institutional integrity in the management of football activities in the country.

The statement added that FKF welcomed FIFA’s guidance and pledged to safeguard the stability, credibility, and proper functioning of Kenyan football during what it described as an important period for the game both locally and internationally.

FKF further stated that it would continue working within its constitutional structures and in close cooperation with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to ensure continuity of football programmes and activities across the country.

The latest communication from FIFA comes amid growing tension within the FKF leadership, with the world football body appearing keen to ensure that all disputes are handled in accordance with the federation’s constitution and internationally accepted governance standards.
