Rugby Africa warns public over impersonation and fraud in Kenya

Rugby Africa has issued a public warning over a fraudulent scheme involving individuals falsely claiming to represent the continental rugby governing body in Kenya.
In a public notice dated July 10, 2026, and released on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Rugby Africa said it had become aware of ongoing cases in which imposters were approaching institutions and organizations while pretending to act on its behalf. According to the organization, the suspects have reportedly contacted institutions including Tharaka University, Waa Primary School, and others in an apparent attempt to seek cooperation, financial support, and funding under false pretences.
The governing body stressed that the individuals involved have no connection with Rugby Africa and are not authorized to represent the organization in any capacity.
“These individuals are not affiliated with, authorized by, or representing Rugby Africa in any capacity.” The statement said in part.
Fraud alert!
Rugby Africa also emphasised that it has no involvement in or endorsement of the activities being carried out by the fraudsters.
“Rugby Africa has no involvement in, endorsement of, or connection to these activities whatsoever.”
The organization cautioned institutions, partners, and members of the public to exercise extreme vigilance when receiving communications, proposals, requests for support, or financial solicitations from anyone claiming to act on behalf of Rugby Africa without proper verification.
“Any communications, requests, proposals, or financial solicitations made by such persons are fraudulent and should be treated with extreme caution.” It added.

The continental rugby body further reminded organisations and individuals that its name, logo, branding, and identity cannot be used without prior written authorisation. It warned that unauthorized use could amount to trademark infringement, misrepresentation, or fraud and may lead to legal action.
Legal action
Rugby Africa said it is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and is actively reviewing the situation. It added that it reserves the right to pursue legal and administrative action against those responsible, including referrals to relevant authorities in Kenya and internationally where appropriate.
The organisation also urged any institution or individual that has been approached by people claiming affiliation with Rugby Africa, or anyone with information regarding the suspected activities, to report the matter immediately.
For verification or to report suspicious activity, Rugby Africa advised the public to contact the organization through its official communication channels.
