Real Madrid linked star Yan Diomande returns to RB Leipzig training after infection

RB Leipzig have welcomed Yan Diomandé back to first-team training after the young winger recovered from illness.
The 19-year-old returned to the training ground on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, ending a spell on the sidelines that also saw him miss the club’s pre-season camp in Austria.
Madrid move
Diomandé’s absence came at a time when speculation over his future was growing, with Real Madrid continuing to be linked with a move for the Côte d’Ivoire international. Despite the transfer rumours, Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer had previously said the club accepted the player’s explanation for missing training and expected him to rejoin the squad once he had fully recovered.
Although Diomandé is now back working with his teammates, uncertainty over his future remains. Schäfer recently admitted that interest from several leading European clubs, together with constant media attention, had been a distraction for the talented teenager.
PSG pulls out
After initially showing interest in signing the Ivory Coast star, Paris Saint-Germain have pulled out of the race to sign the RB Leipzig forward as frustrations grew, with Real Madrid now increasingly confident of landing the teenager.
“The asking transfer fee and salary demands were completely disproportionate and distortive – and PSG will not break its principles of rational financial management and squad balance.” PSG said in statement earlier.
Madrid, who have already had over Ksh14B bid rejected for the 19-year-old, with Leipzig wanting significantly more to let him go, are understood to be pushing hard to finalise a deal for the player.
Diomande had previously indicated a preference to join PSG earlier this summer and agreed to a contract with them until 2031.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid has been active in this window, and the club has so far snapped up Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Marc Cucurella for the new season.
For now, however, Diomandé’s focus has shifted back to Leipzig’s preparations for the new campaign. The Bundesliga side continue their pre-season programme, while no official announcement has been made regarding any potential transfer to Real Madrid.
