Witness recounts last-minute attempts to save MP after tragic accident
An eyewitness has come out to explain the last-minute attempts to try and save nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi, who passed away on Saturday morning, December 6, 2025.
Speaking to a section of the media, Mathew Owire explained that the MP died after a car he was driving hit a bump near his home in Karen at high speed.
The car then rolled before ramming into a tree along Miotoni-Nandi Road in the Karen area.
“Kwa around 6:23 am, gari ilitoka pande ile mbio, akagonga ile bump. Nilijua kupinduka angeweza kupinduka, either aingie na hii ukuta yetu ama inaeza roll pale. Lakini vile nilitoka ilikuwa imeroll tayari imegonga mti,” Owire explained.

Attempts to save him
Owire, who was working nearby, rushed to the scene of the accident and tried to call for help to try and save the late Denar Joseph Hamisi.
He told the press that removing him from the car was not easy, as his head was badly injured and bleeding. He also added that he struggled to open one side of the car to pull the MP out of the wreckage.
He, however, managed to call the police, who arrived at the scene of the accident and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Kuenda pale alikuwa ashalala na damu inatoka pande ile, so hatukuweza kuongea na yeye. Kwanza kutoa ilikuwa shida juu kichwa ilikuwa imejifinya ndani na upande hii huwezi fungua. So polisi walipata already kama tumemtoa nje,” Owire further detailed.

Wetang’ula confirms the death
In an official communication, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula described the MP’s demise as a profound loss to Parliament and the country.
Hamisi, who was nominated to the National Assembly by the Amani National Congress (ANC) after the 2022 General Election, served in the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.

“On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and indeed on my own behalf, I convey the heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Denar, and to all those who experienced his humility and steadfastness to service to the nation and the community,” the speaker announced.
Wetang’ula also appointed a team of Members of Parliament, led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Owen Baya, to work with the family in planning a befitting send-off for the late legislator.
