Raila’s longtime bodyguard Maurice Ogeta finally lands a lucrative job

The late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s long-time bodyguard and security aide, Maurice Ogeta, has landed a senior appointment with the Mombasa County Government, marking a new chapter in his public service career.

In a statement on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir announced new appointments within the Executive Office of the Governor following the establishment of positions by the Mombasa County Public Service Board, in line with the law.

Ogeta has been appointed Advisor, Security Affairs, a role the governor said is informed by his vast experience and deep institutional knowledge built over many years at local, regional, and global levels.

Ogeta is widely known for his long service as a trusted security aide to ODM leader Raila Odinga, one of Kenya’s most prominent political figures.

“The appointment is informed by his many years of experience and deep institutional knowledge built at local, regional and global levels, including his service to our Founding Party Leader, H.E. Raila Odinga, C.G.H.,” the statement read.

Ogeta’s new role will see him advise the county leadership on security matters as Mombasa continues to strengthen public safety, tourism security, and overall urban security management.

His appointment comes a few months after President William Ruto announced that the government will take care of  Maurice Ogeta, in recognition of his loyalty and dedication to the late ODM leader.

Speaking on Sunday, October 19, 2025, during Raila’s burial ceremony at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) in Bondo, the Head of State lauded Ogeta and other members of Raila’s close security team for their unwavering service over the years.

“I must thank his security people, Maurice Ogeta especially, for standing with Raila always. I remember him in our days in ODM when he would even wipe our shoes when we came late for campaigns,” he said.

Ruto assured that the government would take care of the welfare of those who worked closely with Raila, saying they had played a key role in supporting one of Kenya’s most influential political figures.

“Maurice, I want to tell you that as this government preserves Raila’s legacy, we will also take care of you and all those who looked after him,” Ruto stated.

In the same announcement, Governor Nassir also appointed Ken Ambani as Advisor on Creative Arts, citing his extensive experience and first-hand knowledge of the creative sector. The governor said Ambani’s appointment will play a key role in reviving and growing Mombasa’s creative industry for the benefit of artists, youth, and the wider economy.
