Police nab notorious Kapenguria 6 gang members

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation(DCI) on Monday, January 19, 2026, announced that six members of a criminal gang known as the ‘Kapenguria 6’ had been apprehended in Endebes Sub-county.

According to a statement by the investigative body, Law Enforcement Officers from Endebess Sub-County arrested the gang members, who are said to have been wreaking havoc in Kaisheber, Nabeki, Cherubai, and the surrounding area.

“In a joint crackdown on criminal gangs, Law Enforcement Officers from Endebess Sub-County have dismantled a notorious criminal gang known as the ‘Kapenguria Six’,” part of the statement said.

The DCI further states that the six were found in possession of a military jungle belt, a beret, and three pangas, expressing their readiness for violence.

The six are currently in police custody, being processed as they await arraignment.

Public reaction to the arrests has been swift and mixed, reflecting both approval and frustration. Some members of the public have praised the officers involved, urging them to remain focused on tackling crime rather than being distracted by debates around free speech.

For some, the operation is seen as a clear example of law enforcement doing what it is mandated to do, protecting innocent citizens and restoring order in communities that have lived in fear.

Others, however, have used the moment to question the broader approach to justice and accountability. While acknowledging the importance of dismantling local criminal gangs, critics argue that authorities often act decisively against low-level offenders but hesitate when faced with powerful individuals involved in large-scale corruption.

“Good work. Get some more. This is your work, not fighting free speech,” Michael Mulongo, netizen, commented.

“You’re very quick to fry the small fish but grow cold feet when it comes to higher up thieves.” Commented Dumoro, another citizen stated.

This sentiment underscores a lingering public demand for equal application of the law, where both street-level criminals and influential figures are pursued with the same determination.

The formation and rise of notorious and dangerous criminal gangs has been on the rise in the recent past, and the DCI has asked Kenyans to report any suspicious activities through their official channels.
