Moja Expressway Company has announced a 24-hour closure of sections of the Nairobi Expressway from 10:00 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2026, to 10:00 pm on Sunday, June 14, 2026, to facilitate infrastructure works along the highway.

In a public notice, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, the company advised motorists to plan their journeys and use designated diversion routes during the temporary closure to minimise disruptions.

Footbridge works

The temporary closure has been necessitated by the installation of fabricated beams for the new Airtel footbridge across the Nairobi Expressway carriageway.

According to Moja Expressway, the works mark a critical stage in the construction of the pedestrian bridge, which is expected to enhance safety for thousands of people who cross the corridor daily.

The footbridge is intended to provide a safer crossing point for commuters, workers and residents moving between the surrounding commercial and industrial areas.

Alternative routes

Motorists travelling towards Nairobi’s Central Business District from the Mlolongo direction have been advised to exit through Eastern Bypass Exit A and re-enter the Expressway via Southern Bypass Entrance A.

Meanwhile, motorists heading towards Mlolongo from the CBD have been directed to use Southern Bypass Exit B before rejoining the Expressway through Eastern Bypass Entrance B.

Moja Expressway urged motorists to familiarise themselves with the traffic changes ahead of the closure.

“We kindly urge all motorists to plan their journeys accordingly in advance,” the company said.

Traffic advisory

Road users have been encouraged to follow traffic management instructions and cooperate with officers who will be deployed to guide motorists along the diversion routes.

The company acknowledged that the closure may inconvenience some motorists but maintained that the works are essential for improving infrastructure and safety along the Expressway.

“Sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused, and thank you for choosing the Nairobi Expressway,” Moja Expressway said.

Normal traffic operations on the affected sections of the Expressway are expected to resume at 10 pm on Sunday, June 14, upon completion of the installation works.

Mombasa Road traffic

Earlier, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a temporary traffic disruption affecting a section of Mombasa Road and the Nairobi Expressway between Airtel Complex and General Motors to allow for ongoing infrastructure works.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, June 11, 2026, KeNHA stated that the Mombasa-bound carriageway of Mombasa Road (A8) and both carriageways of the Nairobi Expressway within the affected stretch will be closed for 24 hours starting from 10:00 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2026, to Sunday, June 14, 2026.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of the Mombasa -bound carriageway of Mombasa Road (A8) and both carriageways of the Nairobi Expressway between Airtel Complex and General Motors will be closed from Saturday, June 13, 2026, to Sunday, June 14, 2026 for 24 hours from 10.00pm,” KeNHA announced.
