He left home healthy, hoping for an ordinary day’s work at a Parklands construction site.

Instead, the day ended in a hospital bed after the worker fell from the 10th floor of a building under construction, in an incident that has renewed fears over safety in Nairobi’s construction sector.

Taking to his Facebook account on Friday, January 2, 2026, Geoffrey Mosiria, the Head of Customer Care in Nairobi County, stated that county officers responded to a distress call.

This came after serious complaints against a developer whose activities had been endangering neighbouring properties and lives.

According to Mosiria, debris from the construction site had been falling into an adjacent compound, damaging a roof and a water tank, even before the latest accident occurred.

Worker rushed to hospital

Mosiria revealed that the incident took a tragic turn earlier in the day when a construction worker fell from the 10th floor while handling scaffolding.

“Earlier today, a worker fell from the 10th floor while handling scaffolding and was rushed to Avenue Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention,” Mosiria wrote.

The incident caused panic among nearby residents, many of whom had previously raised concerns about the safety of the ongoing works.

Mosiria further noted that the developer immediately fled the site following the accident and has since refused to clear construction waste that had spilled into a neighbouring compound.

County officials confirmed that officers were deployed to the site shortly after the incident as investigations and enforcement measures commenced.

County issues warning

In his statement, Mosiria disclosed that the construction in question had already been stopped on December 16, 2025, but the developer chose to continue working in total disregard of the law.

“Appropriate enforcement action will be taken against the developer,” he stated.

He warned that such conduct would no longer be tolerated in Nairobi, stressing that routine inspections had been intensified across the county.

“This level of impunity will not be tolerated in our city,” Mosiria said, adding that all developers operating without valid county approvals must stop work immediately.

Mosiria emphasised that construction activities would only resume after full compliance with county regulations, noting that public safety, the rule of law, and orderly development remain top priorities.

The Parklands incident has renewed public outrage, coming barely hours after the South C tragedy, as pressure mounts on authorities to rein in rogue developers before more lives are lost.

Elsewhere, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Geoffrey Ruku, has assured the nation that the South C building collapse is under control. He also said that all those who will be found culpable of the collapse will face the full force of the kaw.
