Mosiria backs Ruto’s bid to hang drug barrons

Just like the biblical verse that the wages of sin is death, Geoffrey Mosiria has risen up to back a controversial proposal by President William Ruto aimed at crushing the drug trade in Kenya.

The Head of Customer Care Department in Nairobi County says the country is staring at a silent crisis that is wiping out an entire generation.

Through his Facebook account, Mosiria painted a disturbing picture of how deeply drugs have penetrated Kenyan society, warning that cocaine and heroin are no longer hidden operations.

Nakubaliana kabisa na President. Cocaine na heroine inauzwa kama njugu kwa Airbnb house parties,” Mosiria said.

He added that in high-end clubs, foreigners sell drugs openly without fear.

He claimed the trade has spilt into the CBD and other towns, sometimes involving people living with disabilities along the roadside.

Mosiria also alleged that some individuals perceived to be homeless are actively involved in selling drugs and are not on the streets by chance.

“In estates, those people pretending to sell sweets na mogoka at night are selling drugs,” he warned, describing the situation as a harsh reality destroying families and finishing a generation of young people.

Mosiria went further to call on the President to take firm action, urging the relocation of nightclubs, bars, wines and spirits away from residential areas, which he described as major contributors to substance abuse.

“Crack the whip, Mr President. Let’s save a generation,” he stated.

Ruto’s tough stance

Mosiria’s remarks come against the backdrop of President William Ruto’s proposal to introduce tougher laws against drug traffickers, including the death penalty for kingpins.

Speaking in Uasin Gishu County on Saturday, January 3, the President said current penalties have failed to deter the trade.

“For all these people who are involved in the illicit alcohol trade, we are going to change the law,” Ruto said, noting that offenders currently walk free after paying fines as low as Ksh1M.

“Now we are changing that so that you can be hanged,” he added.

Ruto also revealed plans to confiscate assets linked to the drug trade and establish a strengthened Anti-Narcotics Unit within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, with capabilities similar to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit.

As the debate intensifies nationwide, Mosiria insists the cost of inaction is too high.

“Many young people are being wasted by drugs,” he warned, echoing growing calls for urgent and uncompromising action to protect Kenya’s future.
