Detectives from the Lucky Summer Police Station have nabbed a man linked with fake US dollars in Nairobi, seizing a sizeable haul of fake US dollars in the process.

In a post on the official DCI X account on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the DCI confirmed that the key person of interest was apprehended while ferrying the fake US currency.

“Detectives from Lucky Summer Police Station have netted a key suspect believed to be the brains behind a counterfeit currency racket in Nairobi, seizing a sizeable haul of fake US dollars in the process,” DCI said.

According to a report by the DCI, at the time of the arrest, the officers, while acting on intelligence, nabbed the person of interest while he was trying to drive off.

“Acting on intelligence, the officers set their sights on a white Toyota Prado, suspected of ferrying the fake US currency,” DCI added.

The officers confirmed that after identifying the vehicle, which at the time looked suspicious, they conducted a quick search of the vehicle before finding a locked, metallic blue box hidden in the boot, which raised their eyebrows.

“With a keen eye, they intercepted the vehicle in the Lucky Summer area and arrested the man behind the wheel. A search of the Prado raised more red flags. Hidden in the boot was a locked metallic blue box,” DCI said.

The officers further added that upon being asked to open the metallic box, the person of interest quickly switched to a hardball, flatly refusing to cooperate.

“When asked to open it, he played hardball, flatly refusing to cooperate. Unwilling to let sleeping dogs lie, the officers ordered him to drive straight to the police station for further grilling,” DCI noted.

The officers confirmed that following a quick grill at the station, the mystery box finally gave up its secrets, with the officers confirming that inside were sixty-eight bundles, each packed with 100 counterfeit US dollar notes.

“At the station, the mystery box finally gave up its secrets. Inside were sixty-eight bundles, each packed with 100 counterfeit US dollar notes. Also recovered inside the box were cartons, newspapers, cotton wool, sand, and stones,” DCI confirmed.
